MONTREAL, QC, July 24, 2009 – Hotel Nelligan and Le Place d’Armes Hotel & Suites were named the number two and three North American destinations respectively on Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards, in the Top 50 Large City Hotels in US/Canada (100 rooms or more) category. Now in its 14th year, the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards honour destinations based on reviews by an independent, discerning and unbiased audience – real travelers. Worldwide, Travel + Leisure readers ranked Hotel Nelligan as number 45 overall and Le Place d’Armes Hotel & Suites as number 54, out of a total of 100 properties.

“We are excited and honoured to have received such high praise from the readers of this distinguished publication,” said Dimitri Antonopoulos, Vice President of Marketing, Hotels and Restaurant Development for the Antonopoulos Group, the hotels proprietor. “Both properties have dedicated teams that strive to ensure exceptional service and make each stay a positive and memorable experience.”

«Tourisme Montréal is thrilled to discover that Travel + Leisure magazine readers have voted four Montréal hotels to the top 30 best hotels in North America. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Antonopoulos Group for their commitment to excellence. Both Hotel Nelligan and Le Place d’Armes Hotel & Suites embody the spirit of Montréal, a city renowned for its warm hospitality, history and culture, and relaxed charm, » says Charles Lapointe, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.

Readers rated properties in North America and around the world by answering a questionnaire between January 2009 and March 2009. Readers based nominations on the following key criteria including: rooms / facilities, location, service, restaurants / food, value as well as business and families (optional).

“This year’s results reflect our readers’ travel interests in this challenging economic reality — value, intimacy, service, and discovery are top priorities”, said Nancy Novogrod, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure.

For the first time since the launch of the annual readers’ survey in 1996, hotels have been classified in different categories. There can be between one to four categories, differing by region. In North America they were: Large City Hotels, Small City Hotels, Resorts, and Inns. In addition to hotels, the questionnaire also rated hotel spas, destination spas, cities, islands, cruise lines / cruise ships, tour operators and safari outfitters, airlines and car rental agencies.
